What’s the best thing about Taiwan?
It's really difficult to summarize this into one paragraph. Taiwan may be a small country but its people are resilient, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Being in my third year in Taiwan, I have grown attached to not only their culture, but their ways of thinking and their desire to progress and share their wealth of knowledge with the world. The longer I spend in Taiwan, the more humble and appreciative I feel about what it has to offer.
How do you support Foresight teachers in your role as a Lead Teacher?
Considering this is the first academic year with Lead Teachers at Guangren Elementary School, it has been a steep learning curve for all involved. Firstly, my role as a Lead Teacher means the bigger picture takes priority. Fortunately, we have two Lead Teachers, so each can focus on specific grade levels, but the nature of our job description is ever-changing depending on the needs of our whole team of teachers, and within the grade teams. Secondly, we are the link between teachers and management, but due to the fact that we are also classroom teachers, we are equipped with the experience and insight to work with and support fellow teachers. Lastly, as one of the teachers who have been at this school the longest, I am able to identify and appreciate the growth and progress made with each academic year. It is through my own experiences (both failures and successes) that new team members can learn from and receive support and guidance, to maximize their own potential - both as a team member, and within their own classrooms. It has been a great experience so far.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
Without a doubt, the most rewarding part of my role is when my own knowledge and experiences can help and support other team members. Having been an educator for many years, I do not hesitate to take advantage of opportunities where I can "pay it forward."
