Canadian ESL Program

In today’s increasingly global societies, language and cultural competencies are more important than ever for student success. Our goal is to foster global education in a local context, and we have developed a unique ESL curriculum, employing the best teaching practices from Canada and Taiwan.

Teaching Ontario-based Curriculum in Taiwan

We designed the curriculum by working with educational specialists from Ontario and Taiwan in order to merge the strengths of both teaching methodologies and meet the needs of Taiwanese students.

In creating the curriculum, we’ve provided plenty of opportunities for teacher input and creativity. Teachers can adapt and differentiate the provided plans to suit the needs and interests of their students.

The primary focus is literacy and communication, though topics such as art, music, science, and physical education are also embedded in the curriculum. The students’ language is being developed through social and academic interactions, with teachers also having the opportunities to share and celebrate elements of their own culture.

Teach the Language, Not Just Content

We believe that language is best learned in an interactive and meaningful context. At all grade levels, units are organized around high-interest and globally-relevant themes. Physical and digital resources help engage students and provide opportunities for natural language use.

Small class sizes and interactive lessons provide the students with many opportunities to interact with the teacher, work in pairs, and collaborate in small groups. Through these interactions they practise using the language in real situations and authentic interactions.

Generalist and specialist teachers are welcome! Although background knowledge of specific content areas may be beneficial, it is not a requirement, as English language learning remains the focus, and communication is the goal.

Focusing on Student Success

Our student-focused program emphasizes learning skills such as responsibility, initiative, collaboration, self-regulation, and more. Assessment and evaluation practices center on both academic and socioemotional skills, to support our students’ success in the classroom and beyond.

Unlike more traditional models that heavily employ repetition and memorization of vocabulary, the Ontario program focuses on student success through the development of language skills, critical thinking, work habits, and authentic interactions.

The program is uniquely and specifically designed to support Taiwanese students in their education locally or abroad – students develop an appreciation for their own culture while learning about and interpreting the world through a global perspective.

Collaboration

In our Ontario ESL program, teachers don’t just teach collaboration, they practise it. Our teachers work with fellow grade partners, forming strong, cohesive teaching teams.

Grade Partner Planning times are built into the teaching schedule to allow teachers to plan together and discuss the curriculum. Working together allows teachers to learn from each other, support each other, and grow as a professional while engaging with others.

The work environment

Balanced Teaching Hours

Teachers enjoy a balanced schedule with regular planning time built into their workday. Teaching hours are capped at around 22 per week, giving you time to prepare lessons, collaborate, and enjoy life outside of school.

LOCAL PROGRAM

Small Class Learning

Unlike public school settings, our teachers work with the same small classes (18–22 students) each day—allowing you to  build meaningful connections and see your students’ progress firsthand.

Educational Assistant Support

In lower elementary grades, teachers are additionally supported by a Taiwanese educational assistant, making classroom management and daily routines even more seamless, and helping bridge cultural and language gaps.

Modern Classroom Facilities

Our classrooms are fully equipped with projectors or Smartboards, to facilitate digital literacy for students and convenience for teachers. They are modelled after classrooms in Canada and are designed to flexibly facilitate individual, small group, and whole class learning.
